<image:title>about me - Jamie L Hatcher, CNM</image:title>
<image:caption>I am a Certified Nurse Midwife with a broad range of experience in hospital, birth center and home birth settings. Originally from Montana, I earned my first baccalaureate degree in Health & Human Development from Montana State University. After serving as health volunteer in the Peace Corps, I went on to earn a second baccalaureate degree in nursing from Johns Hopkins University, and then completed a collaborative Masters program in Nurse Midwifery from Johns Hopkins and Shenandoah Universities. My journey to midwifery was a bit of a winding path, but it most likely started when I found Frederick LeBoyer’s Birth Without Violence at a yard sale. I read the book cover to cover and started telling people how babies should be born! Growing up in Montana in the 90’s, I had limited exposure to the field of midwifery and wasn’t sure I wanted to pursue a medical degree. So I meandered through college learning bits and pieces about birth, but never quite connecting the dots.</image:caption>

<image:title>kind words - “We are so grateful for Jamie's guidance and support throughout pregnancy, my son's birth, and postpartum. Throughout these distinct seasons, we felt so respected and seen by her. She offered gentle care, room to talk through any questions/concerns, and always centered me and baby in her practice. We made decisions together, drawing on Jamie's exceptional knowledge and experience, rather than being told or pushed in any direction. We trusted in her guidance 110%, and felt safe and empowered with evidence-based knowledge throughout the pregnancy. During birth, she let my body lead the way and her quiet confidence held a calm and peaceful atmosphere for my son to enter the world in. Postpartum, I texted Jamie all the time with any question that came up, and she always responded lovingly with the advice and resources I really needed at that time. Jamie is not only an exceptionally skilled and experienced midwife, she is an incredibly special person - kind, funny, thoughtful and present. We missed being around her as our son got older and we saw less of her! I would recommend her and her care wholeheartedly, and we feel truly lucky that we had her in our lives as we entered into familyhood.”</image:title>

<image:title>kind words - “I truly can’t say enough good things about Jamie and her role in my pregnancy and birth. We rotated between a few midwives during our prenatal visits, but we felt a special connection with Jamie. My husband and I both felt we were talking to a friend, not just a healthcare provider. She imparted advice all along the journey that we not only heeded, but craved more of. During my birthing experience Jamie was my calm in the storm. Her level headedness, knowledge and care were everything I needed that day. I feel so lucky that I was supported by a midwife who made me feel like a I could conquer anything. I look back on my son’s birth as a truly joyful, empowering experience and I know so much of that is owed to Jamie. We can’t wait for baby # 2’s home birth with our favorite midwife! ”</image:title>

<image:title>kind words - “I now know Jamie not only as a midwife but as a soul sister as she was there during one of the greatest moments of my life to help me bring in a life the way we were meant to. There were no unnecessary medical interventions or pressure to stay in bed or in a certain position to accommodate the practitioner. I was lovingly encouraged and reminded that I had the strength within me to accomplish this major feat during my prenatal visits and through out labor. When it came time to have my baby, I was supported to birth in the water, then in the bed and provided a quiet, peaceful, and safe environment to focus on the task at hand. When my son presented, he had a shoulder dystocia and was stuck there for a few minutes. Jamie allowed me to try repositioning to release it, which ultimately I believe is what worked, and although it was a stressful point in the process, I never felt safer than I did with Jamie as my midwife. I trust her fully with my baby’s life and mine and would definitely love to have a home birth with her if I ever had the opportunity. Words can not express how thankful I am for the care and support that Jamie extended at this time in my life.”</image:title>
